Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer

Belize acceded the Montreal Protocol, together with its Copenhagen and London Amendments on 9th January 1998. Since the signing of the Protocol in 1998, Belize has established a National Ozone Unit (NOU)in the Department of the Environment, Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment, established in June 2002 the legal framework to allow for better control over the imports of ODSs and ODS-using equipment, and has executed the projects approved under the Refrigerant Management Plan (RMP) and the Refrigerant management Plan Update (RMPU).

The country initiated the process for acceptance of the Montreal and Beijing Amendments in 2007 and has been finalized. On 4th January 2008, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, signed the Instrument of Acceptance for both the Montreal and Beijing Amendments to the Montreal Protocol on Substance that Deplete the Ozone Layer.
